Rye, N.Y. - March 3, 2016 - Furniture Sharehouse is holding its first ever art sale on Thursday, April 7th 2016 from 6:30 - 9:00 pm at Serendipity Labs in Rye, New York. The evening is entitled "Home is where the heART is". Tickets are $35 and can be purchased on the Furniture Sharehouse website at www.furnituresharehouse.org or by calling 914-834-1294.

Over the years, Furniture Sharehouse has received donations of hundreds of works of art, more than their clients can take.  These extra peices of art will be sold to the public at the art sale, with all the proceeds helping to furnish the homes of people who move into empty apartments after leaving homeless shelters, fleeing domestic violence and other struggles. Cleints include veterans, people with disabilities, victims of floods or fires, medical crises or other traumatic situations.

The goal of the art sale is to raise funds to furnish 25 families, providing them with gently used beds, dressers, a kitchen table and chairs, a living room sofa, an arm chair and other basic pieces. Each family receives about 20 items after a visit to the Furniture Sharehouse warehouse located at the Westchester County Airport.  Furnishings are the foundations of a home, helping people regain self-respect and a sense of normalcy so they can advance from adversity.

The art sale will include over 150 works of art suitable for display in a country cottage, a stately manor, a mod office, a sports den and a child's room. There truly will be something for everyone.  Special contributions have been donated by:

  • Internationally renowned 3D Pop Artist Charles Fazzino, who is known for his bright, whimsical and wonderfully detailed 3D pop art including Cityscapes and Sports Art
  • Rye Brook artist Steven Perkins, who works in oils and mixed media
  • Several local artists who have completed "Chair Makeovers" for the silent auction

There will be terrific bargains, one-0f-a-kind pieces and limited editions. Most of the art will be sold at fixed prices starting at just $25, with a few special pieces offered through silent auction bidding.

The evening's lead sponsor is TD Bank and Westfair Communications is the Media Sponsor. Food is being donated by Mrs. Green's, The Gourmet Taste, Cafe Gruener, Mint, Blue Tulip; Yonkers Brewery and Captain Lawrence Brewing Company are providing beer. There will be other tasty treats, wine and more. Additional sponsors include McClellan Sotheby's International REalty, Carpet Trends and Serendipity Labs.

LONELY CHAIR SAYS “I WANT TO DO MORE THAN SIT AROUND ALL DAY – LET FURNITURE SHAREHOUSE GIVE YOUR OLD FURNITURE A NEW LIFE”

WHITE PLAINS, NY – July 10, 2015 – Furniture Sharehouse announced today that it is launching a unique awareness campaign designed to bring attention to the thousands of Westchester residents who don’t have a bed to sleep on, a table to eat at, or a dresser to store clothes in.

“Lonely Chair” is the name of the campaign which features single chairs in local places of business, libraries and farmer’s markets.  A sign on the chair directs people to the organization’s website www.furnituresharehouse.org, where they can learn more about the items needed, volunteer opportunities, and other ways they can help.

Donated furniture is distributed to the individuals and families in need through over 25 member agencies, which refer pre-qualified clients to Furniture Sharehouse to select much-needed free furniture.  Member agencies include: Westhab Inc., Human Development Services of Westchester, Hope’s Door, Family Services of Westchester, Washingtonville Housing Alliance and The Guidance Center.

The campaign will bring awareness to the plight of these Westchester families who lack basic household furniture and furnishings and also to Furniture Sharehouse which serves over a dozen individuals and families each week.  Partnering with local establishments will help spread the word organically and allow Furniture Sharehouse to dedicate its resources to its cause.  Furniture Sharehouse relies on Westchester residents and business to fund its operation by donating funds, goods and services so it can provide furniture directly to its clients at no cost.

Furniture Sharehouse is counting on this campaign to drive needed donations of beds, tables, chairs and dressers so they can continue their mission to help make a house a home for those in need.

Furniture Sharehouse's Fall Drives "Help Make a House a Home"

October 14, 2009, Larchmont, NY -- Furniture Sharehouse, Westchester’s Furniture Bank, held its first of two Fall Furniture Drives on Saturday, September 26 at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle.  Over 200 items of gently-used furniture were collected from over 50 donors for redistribution free of charge directly to needy Westchester families.

A second Fall Furniture Drive will be held in at the North Castle Town Hall in Armonk on Saturday, October 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00.  Basic furniture items, including mattresses/box springs, tables and chairs, dressers, occasional tables, rugs and lamps are needed.

The Furniture Drives are official Recycling Events sponsored by the County of Westchester’s Department of Environmental Facilities to encourage recycling of used furniture to keep it out of the waste stream.

The New Rochelle Drive was staffed by volunteers from all over the County, including members of The Junior League of Westchester on the Sound, Pace University’s Lambda Sigma Sophomore Honor Society and other community members.

A large trailer donated by Brookfield Resource Management Inc. of Elmsford was used to collect the furniture for transport to Furniture Sharehouse’s warehouse located at the Westchester County Airport.

“Furniture drives are a great way for us to collect a large quantity of furniture while saving on expensive trucking pick-up costs,” said Kate Bialo, Director of Furniture Sharehouse.  “We were able to fill the trailer with enough good-quality furniture to help 15-20 families turn their empty apartments into a real home.”

Furniture Sharehouse provides gently-used free furniture to families moving out of homeless shelters, escaping domestic violence, or recovering from natural or personal disasters.  Families are referred by member agencies to ensure that the furniture goes directly to those who need it most.  Since opening in April 2007, it has provided 640 families, over 1,700 individuals, including 750 children, with over 6,200 items of furniture worth over $438,000 that they could never have afforded to purchase.

Before loading up the car, donors are urged to check Furniture Sharehouse’s Donation guidelines at www.furnituresharehouse.org to make sure their items can be accepted.  Drop-off donations are also accepted at the warehouse at the Westchester County Airport on Wednesday and Thursday mornings or by arrangement.

October 24th is also “Make a Difference Day” across the country, so if you are looking for a way to make a difference in your community, volunteers are needed to greet donors, unload, sort, tag and re-load furniture – two shifts are available:  8:30 to 11:30 and 11:30 to 3:00.
