Furniture Sharehouse was founded by The Junior League of Westchester on the Sound (JLWOS) and is supported as a Community Project by JLWOS with generous funding and volunteers.  JLWOS is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the Sound Shore communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

The JLWOS operates the Golden Shoestring, a "nearly new" shop in Larchmont, as its primary fundraiser to support its community projects, including Furniture Sharehouse and help fund scholarships and community grants.

JLWOS also provides a volunteer Steering Committee to assist Furniture Sharehouse with many aspects of its operations, including fundraising, marketing, communications and technology.  The 2009-2010 JLWOS Steering Committee includes:

Deena Demasi
Gillian Pinchin
Jean Chambers
Jennifer Servedio
Laurie Forkas
