Furniture Sharehouse was established through the efforts of Kate Bialo, Director, and The Junior League of Westchester on the Sound (www.jlwos.org). JLWOS supports Furniture Sharehouse as a Community Project and provided seed funding to enable us to acquire warehouse space and commence operations in January 2007. It also provides member volunteers who work hundreds of hours a year to enable Furniture Sharehouse to fulfill its goal of providing free basic home furnishings to those who need it most.
Furniture Sharehouse is also the recipient of an Emergency Shelter Grant from the Westchester County Department of Planning to assist families and individuals moving from homeless housing into transitional or permanent housing.
Furniture Sharehouse is a New York State Not-for-Profit corporation, and is tax-exempt under IRS Section 501(c)(3). Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Furniture Sharehouse joins over seventy other furniture banks across the country that together provided over one million pieces of furniture to more than 100,000 families. We are a member of The National Furniture Bank Association (www.help1up.org), which helps furniture banks increase existing capacity and works to help open new ones.
