COMMUNITY UNITARIAN CHURCH FURNITURE DRIVE FREEZINGLY SUCCESSFUL! PDF Print E-mail

On Saturday, February 6th, Community Unitarian Church of White Plains (CUC) sponsored a furniture drive at our warehouse.  Nearly two dozen hardy volunteers, most of them congregants from CUC, spent a busy seven hours at our unheated warehouse, helping unload furniture brought by donors, as well as re-organizing the furniture in the warehouse to make room for new donations. Special thanks to Rev. Carol Huston of CUC for her continuing support, to Ann Marie and Scott Damashek, who spearheaded the planning for the drive within CUC; to Danny Klemens, for his publicity and other assistance; to Marie Graham, who applied her special organizational and culinary touches to pull the event together and make sure that everyone knew what to do, how and when to do it, and made sure their tummies were filled with warming beverages, soup and other goodies. And let’s not forget Scott ’s fabulous pulled pork sandwiches! It was our first Furniture Drive/Smorgasbord – from now on, we’ll have to bring a chuckwagon to all our furniture drives!

Thank you to all the Community Unitarian Church congregants – those who braved the cold to work at the drive, those who donated furniture and those who supported us in spirit!  And thanks to the FS regulars who came to help as well -- Doug Graham, Jayne, Deirdre and Morgan -- special mention to Georgia, Morgan's 6-month old labradoodle!

M. B. & Edna Zale Foundation Gives Furniture Sharehouse a $10,000 Challenge Grant PDF Print E-mail

At Furniture Sharehouse we’re quite familiar with challenges. The challenges our clients face, day in and day out, to create a comfortable and stable home for their families. The challenges we face in keeping our warehouse stocked with the most needed items. The challenges case workers face as an ever-increasing number of people seek their help.

But now we face a new challenge, a challenge that we welcome.

The M.B. & Edna Zale Foundation, which provided us with support in our very first year of operations back in 2007, has renewed its support for our mission with two new grants -- $10,000 for general expenses, and a $10,000 Challenge Grant to attract NEW DONORS in 2010 with a dollar-for-dollar match up to $10,000.

Will you help us meet that challenge?

Please tell your family, friends and neighbors about Furniture Sharehouse and our important mission, and let them know that a donation in 2010 will do twice as much good, thanks to our friends at the M. B. & Edna Zale Foundation. To help us earn these matching funds, donate now.

Furniture Sharehouse collects gently-used and new furniture from the general public and vendors and redistributes it free of charge to clients referred by member social service agencies, ensuring that it goes DIRECTLY to those who truly need it. Our clients include: those moving out of homeless shelters into permanent housing; battered women and children escaping domestic violence; working families struggling to stay above the poverty line; young adults aging out of foster care; victims of fires or other natural disasters.

Won’t you help us make a house a home for a needy family in Westchester County?
